January, 1969. Virtually all of these buildings, the theatre, Reiters (a furniture upholstery shop), Goldblatts, are gone. Only the Elevated tracks and the four-story building in the center of the photograph remain. The population of Englewood is today roughly 25% of its peak.

Maybe it had something to do with the decades of black violence against white people, which we are not supposed to speak about. Certainly the corporate media never speaks about it.
